The Kingdom of Thailand has recognized the Independence of the Kyrgyz Republic in December 26, 1991.

Diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand established on August 6, 1992.

Bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and Thailand are emerging. In 1996, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, which has shown an interest in the establishment of the Thai friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Kyrgyzstan. During the visit, was reached an agreement  on the organization of the 1997 visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Askar Akaev to Thailand. In this regard, the Ministry carried out some work on the preparation of and agreement with the Thai side projects of the following documents:

  • Joint Declaration on the principles of cooperation;
  • Agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism;
  • Protocol on Cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of Kyrgyzstan and Thailand;
  • Agreement on Air Services;
  • Agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

In February 1998, Thailand visited the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A.Dzhekshenkulov to participate in the meeting of Asia-Pacific countries. During the meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had discussed the establishment of the legal framework of bilateral relations.
Positively developing cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand in the framework of multilateral diplomacy. Thailand has become a co-sponsor UN resolution declaring the International Year of Mountains and the 2,200th anniversary of Kyrgyz statehood.

Trade and economic relations are at an early stage of development. The total volume of trade between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand in 2009 amounted to 2.2 million dollars.
